Surviving Survivor
Monday, December 20, 2010
December 2-3 - I barely had time to take a vacation from my Naga vacation when I had to style for the finale of Survivor Philippines. Now most of you know that I don't watch much television, so I had no idea what I was getting into when the project was first proposed to me. All I knew was that this edition would be the "Celebrity Edition" and that I had to style the whole cast.
Taking a cue from the show itself, the production team wanted the styling to be nature-inspired and organic:
All went well during the rehearsals, and everyone was in a chillax vibe:
So I was feeling really positive when I arrived bright and early the next morning for the taping. What I didn't consider was that the finale was live and the cast would be separated in 4 different dressing rooms located in 2 floors. So up and down we (me + the hair & makeup team) went to get everyone dolled up and ready to roll. I almost wanted to curse myself for wearing 4-inch wedge boots on that day, but one has to suffer for fashion, I guess.
After last-minute hair, makeup and styling changes, mobs of fans and a whole lot of rumors about the voting, the winner was finally announced.
At the end of the day, I just wanted to kick off my heels and take a clue from Survivor host Richard and get a massage: Sounds like a good plan, don't you think? Labels: celebrities, fashion, makeup, styling, work stuff ![]() ![]() ![]() |
After Fashion (Week)...
Saturday, December 18, 2010
November 26-29 - After the chaos that was Philippine Fashion Week, me and my girlfriends Des and Kaye decided to go on a much-needed vacation for some R & R. Des, being a wakeboard enthusiast, suggested Naga. Kaye was hesitant about it because of a bad wakeboarding experience way back, but I also wanted to try it. So Naga it is.
First thing we noticed was that there were a lot of foreign wakeboarders around, but we didn't think much of it, since our country is THE tourist destination especially around December. It was a bit funny on the plane to Naga though, cause this guy accidentally slept on my shoulder--didn't bother to wake him up cause he looked really tired. Poor guy. Must be the jetlag.
In between girl bonding and pig-out sessions, we did A LOT of wakeboarding and boy, was it fun and addicting! I barely noticed the aches and pains till I saw the huge blisters on my hands! I didn't want to stop, but my arms felt heavy after a few hours so I had to call it a day. But I will definitely go back. Just so happened that our good friend (and makeup artist) Tippy was also in town visiting his parents and insisted that we spend a night in their family's house:
On the way to the airport for our flight home, we saw this HUGE billboard that almost caused us to miss our flight: The "foreign dudes" at CWC were all pro wakeboarders! And remember the guy who accidentally slept on my shoulder on the plane ride to Naga? Turns out, he was THE pro boarder Ruben Lenten!

Tornadoes and mystery

November 25 - Did some last minute styling for Jerome Lorico and Veejay Floresca's benefit fashion show at the SMX Convention Center. Was totally excited about it because Jerome and Veejay are one of the most talented young designers in the country, aside from the fact that I did the coverage for Veejay's Grand Allure Collection for Philippine Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2011.
Since I got the chance to talk to Veejay last Fashion Week, I knew that his collection was inspired by hurricanes and tornadoes. So I did my best to interpret his vision with wild hair and nature-inspired accessories:
As for Jerome, I had no idea which particular collection he was gonna show since he didn't participate in this season's Fashion Week because he had to fly to Japan for a design competition. All I knew from the brief was that Jerome will be using mostly blacks for his palette and knits for the fabric. I was inspired by the enigma surrounding his collection, so taking a clue from my favorite director, Stanley Kubrick, I decided to play on the mystery:
I think it worked pretty well and I had a blast working on the show. Not bad for my last gig before my post-Fashion Week vacation! Labels: adventures and (mis)adventures, fashion, models, styling, work stuff |
Me, the guinea pig
Thursday, December 2, 2010
I always thought models had it easy. I mean, how hard is it to pose and smile in front of the camera, right? That was until I got a text from my makeup artist friend Tippy asking if I can do a shoot for him and his photographer friend, Mezarc. Thinking that I would help with the styling of the pictorial, I replied with a:
Until I got a reply of:
Oh, boy. I knew I was in for an interesting afternoon as soon as I arrived at Tippy's studio. Being used to behind-the-scenes, I had no idea how to pose. So I did the next best thing--be myself. Tippy originally had an idea having a high-fashion-no-smiling layout for me, but being the happy-happy-joy-joy girl that I am, they decided to give me a "toothpaste commercial layout". So a few hours and a stiff neck later, here are the results:
Lesson for the day: Never underestimate models. What they do is a LOT of hard work! Labels: adventures and (mis)adventures, fashion, makeup, models, photography, posse |
